We’re Tiernen and Thistle, a husband-and-wife wedding photography and film team based in the Toledo area, serving couples across Ohio, Michigan, and beyond.

Our story

Garden of Love has grown alongside our relationship and our family. As partners, parents, and a creative team, we’ve built a business rooted in love, integrity, and the experiences we share with the people who invite us into their lives.

We care about how you feel throughout your time with us. That means getting to know you, following through on our promises, and helping you feel comfortable enough to be yourself. We want you to leave with photographs and films you love, and good memories of the people behind the cameras.

We’re Tiernen and Thistle, the married couple behind Garden of Love. We’re parents, creative partners, and the people who will be getting to know you and documenting your day.

Tiernen Rice

Director & Lead Cinematographer

I keep things moving, read the room, and help make the day feel fun. I’m equal parts calm and hype, ready to offer direction or step back when a moment needs room to happen.

From the time you book through your finished film, I’m here to answer questions and help you feel prepared. On your wedding day, I’m listening for the words and watching for the moments you’ll want to remember, including a few you might have missed.

Thistle Rice

Lead Photographer & Producer

I’m drawn to the little things: the way you look at each other, the people you reach for, and the moments when you forget there’s a camera nearby. I’ll offer gentle direction when you need it and give you time to settle in.

I’m a documentarian at heart. I want you to feel comfortable with me and know you can be yourself. I’m here to support you, keep things light, and make photographs that bring you back to the people and feelings of your day.

Your personal hype team. We’ll cheer you on, laugh with your people, and help you loosen up in front of the camera. Couples often tell us how much they loved our energy and how much fun they had with us, and we love hearing that.

Careful, natural editing. We pay attention to skin tones, light, and color so your photographs and film feel consistent.
Photo and film working together. We plan together and communicate throughout the day, giving you one team to turn to.

We got our engagement photos done in October and they were everything we dreamed they would be, and we had no doubt in our mind that the wedding would be spectacular as well! These two make you feel so comfortable during the shoot, and there is never an awkward moment. They do an amazing job posing you, giving suggestions, making you laugh, ugly cry(in a good way), and all in all have a good time.

If you need a photographer/videographer...look no further. Anyone can hold up a camera and hit a button, but these two have an eye for the actual art of photography!!
